CCSF 2012 Day 8: Daily Comic by Pirate-Rob

Created by Pirate-Rob

Someone is rather excited about a new release, but Pirate-Rob has another idea in mind! Be careful, little Norn!

CCSF 2012 Day 8: Aquatic World Feral Run

Submitted by Kitty Tikara for C3/DS

There is no better way to explore the depths of the aquatic regions in Creatures than with a group of water-dwelling Norns! This group of feral run Norns are accustomed to the water, and enjoy nothing more than swimming and splashing about! Please make sure to read the important information below, as these Norns come from breeds with sprite dependencies and special instructions. Enjoy spending time in the underwater realm of C3/DS with some adorable new additions! Included in the download are the following:

Gill Norns (Four from Generations 15-16)
Pearl Mermaid Norns (Five from Generations 9-10)

Download the Aquatic World Norns (504 KB RAR File)

From Kitty Tikara: "The Gill Norns have to be kept underwater at all times, or they die quickly. The Pearl Mermaid Norns can't retreat from Norns in the water and can't lay eggs on their own. They can swim, though! They had the color mutation from the beginning, and the Golden Desert sprites were added in later generations. Quick tip for keeping them happier: Have a lot of dummy portals, or just raise a pair at a time."

IMPORTANT: The Gill Norns and Pearl Mermaid Norns are required in order to view the sprites of these Norns correctly. Additionally, the Golden Desert Norn sprites should be installed.

CCSF 2012 Day 8: Oasis

Created by Liam and Moe for C3/DS (Metaroom)

For those Norns, Grendels, and Ettins who live underwater, a brand new area is just waiting to be explored! Oasis is a circular metaroom complete with a small beach and aquatic area teeming with life! Not only are there new sharks, fish, and coral to discover, but the metaroom also includes several new toys. It's a perfect place for Creatures of all ages to enjoy the water! See if you can find some of the new items in Oasis, such as:

Beach Ball
Inner Tube
Shark
Submarine Toy

Download Oasis (3.4 MB RAR File)

From Moe: "Oasis was originally a test-bed for my early coding experiments, specifically with aquatic life (swimming agents, ecosystems, etc). It's over 5 years old and frankly was never meant to be released, except that Liam thought it was pretty and releasable. I agreed with him and figured someone else might enjoy it (if only for the looks, yes). It's a "might as well" release. It was NOT designed for Creatures to live in: It was designed for my own personal testing. It was also not particularly polished (it was just a test-bed, after all). It was not meant to be a well-thought-out room. Just something pretty to play with that I decided to share."

CCSF 2012 Day 8: Aquatic Garden Box Agents

Created by Grendel Man for DS

Customization of the Creatures games has been a huge focus over the last few months. Although many creations have been geared more towards solid ground, the aquatic realm certainly has not been forgotten! With this new download, the C3 gumin grass and sponges have been greatly improved to be used with Amaikokonut's Garden Box! Included with this excellent download for Docking Station are the following:

Garden Box Gumin Grass Agent
Garden Box Sponges Agent (Opal and Orange)
Gumin Grass Readme
Sponges Readme

Download Aquatic Garden Box Agents (24 KB RAR File)

From Grendel Man: "These agents will add the gumin grass, opal sponge, and orange sponge from the C3 Aquatic Terrarium to the Garden Box created by Amaikokonut. If you do not have the Garden Box, then these agents will be rather useless to you. They should act similar to their C3 counterparts, with some of the following updates (more information in the Readme files):
  • The plants and sponges can be pushed and pulled by Creatures, and the seeds/spores are edible.
  • The orange sponges live only half as long as the opal sponges, but are more populous.
  • If the sponges are outnumbered by Creatures, they will release special spores that grow immediately.
  • If a mature gumin grass plant is all by itself, it will produce small sproutlings that can be picked up.
  • The seeds will go dormant if they're outnumbered by Creatures, shrinking and becoming invisible."

IMPORTANT: These agents will only work with Amaikokonut's Garden Box, which will only work in Docking Station, or in a C3/DS docked world. It will not work in a standalone Creatures 3 world. Creatures 3 must be installed.

CCSF 2012 Day 8: Under the Sea

Written by Jessica as Part of the Shee Journey Series

My first encounter with the Grendels from the previous day had been rather frightening, and my tea still sloshed over the sides of my mug from time to time. Despite my fear, these were some of the more interesting research subjects. They were so similar to the Norns that were so beloved, yet the ancient Shee must have written them off as a genetic mistake and decided to label them as the enemy. I slipped quietly into the cage room when my assistants were preoccupied. The Grendels were sleeping soundly, eyes twitching with dreams and mouths letting little sighs and snores escape. Our planetary approach forced me to return to my post, yet that moment gave me a glimpse into the future of these Grendels: They would be studied and destroyed, without a second thought. Such a pity.

The beautiful sapphire color shining from beyond the spacecraft brought a feeling of renewed joy. There had to be a way to convince the Shee Intergalactic Research Institute to understand that these Norns, Grendels, and Ettins were far more important than to be used as a means to an end. They appeared to have survived for hundreds of years without the aid of the Shee, and they were scattered throughout the planets. Wasn't that proof enough that there was something special about them? Wasn't the feeling of attachment I had unintentionally developed worth fighting for? Before I could resolve these questions, the vessel started off.

I read through the data reports as they came in. This was an interesting world, consisting almost entirely of endless oceans. The water was hardly devoid of life, and the vessel had a difficult time photographing anything without having its lens obstructed with some aquatic critter or another. I quickly denied its request to send a low level electric shock through the water: I saw no value in it for a simple picture. Suffice to say that the vessel sent back "accidentally" blurry shots before collecting several interesting discoveries. The fact that its indicator panel recommended a water tank told me everything. I wanted a close look at these new additions.

From Jessica: "The CCSF may have already featured a somewhat aquatic world, but today has an even more watery theme! Hopefully worlds have taken shape and been filled with many of the new downloads. For those looking for a few more truly aquatic-themed releases, look no further than the eighth day of the CCSF! Who knows what we will discover beneath the depths of the oceans?"
