CCSF 2012 Day 14: Prizes for All

As a special thanks to everyone who took part in the CCSF 2012 in some way, here are a couple of wonderful prizes to enjoy! Both are C3/DS agents created by the generous and talented Ghosthande. Enjoy!

Download the Norn Nip (5 KB RAR File) | Download the Purple Mountain Norn Doll (72 KB RAR File)

CCSF 2012 Day 14: Chione

Created by Mea for C3/DS (Metaroom)

What better way to celebrate a frozen world than to actually bring one to your game? Chione is a gigantic icy-themed metaroom that has been discussed at Creatures Caves for a long time, with the original idea coming from Sam999. Many have helped with this project, and this initial version should give those cold weather Creatures something to enjoy and claim as their brand new home, with plenty of space!

Download Chione (12.4 MB RAR File)

From Mea: "This is just the very basic version of the room without the teleporters and door. There will probably be an add-on pack later that will include the teleporters and door for getting around and into Chione."

CCSF 2012 Day 13: Dustdevil Grendels Pack

Created by Ghosthande for C3/DS (Grendel Breed)

We certainly couldn't finish our journey in the desert without a gigantic release! The Dustdevil Grendels are a new breed in and of themselves, but they also come with a ton of wonderful new agents!

Download the Dustdevil Grendels (5.2 MB RAR File)

From Ghosthande: "The Dustdevil Grendels are a new breed with genetics based on Vampess's CFE genomes, and they come with a variety of agents and a couple of fixes. They hail from the Ettin Desert, but overall have the same personality as your average Jungle Grendel. This breed is based on an original idea and concept art by Gobbo, with additional input from a lot of different people. Peer-reviewed Grendels, baby!"

Included with this download are the following:

Calendar Wheel (C3, C3/DS, or DS)
Crystal Skull (DS Only)
Desert Nursery (C3 or C3/DS)
Dustdevil Grendels (Grendel Breed)
New Gadget Dropper (C3 or C3/DS)
Succulent (C3, C3/DS, or DS)
Sunflower (C3, C3/DS, or DS)
Thorny Devil (C3, C3/DS, or DS)

IMPORTANT: Please note which type of world setup each agent will work in. The Dustdevil Grendels use Grendel breed slot X, often occupied by the Tiger Grendels. Make sure to uninstall any breeds in this breed slot before hatching a Dustdevil Grendel. More information is included in the Readme.

Calendar Wheel
Tells the date and time of day, and emits heat. Injects into the Ettin Desert in C3 or DS docked worlds, or the Norn Meso in undocked DS worlds.

How it Works: The calendar rings rotate so that the current season and cycle period are located at the top. The inner ring indicates which day it is within a season, as indicated by groups of circles; markers on this ring also indicate when it is early moring (rising sun) or late evening (crescent moon). The outer ring tells if it is spring (storm cloud), summer (sun), autumn (owl) or winter (bat).

Crystal Skull
May have strange effects on Creatures?

How it Works: The crystal skull is a gimmicky accessory for your Creatures to ponder over, but it also has some other properties. Will it infuse your Creatures with the knowledge of the ancients...?

Desert Nursery
Transform that dangerous pond into a friendly nursery for baby Creatures. The Desert Terrarium (Ettin Desert) metaroom must be present.

How it Works: The desert nursery transforms that pond on the right side of the Desert Terrarium into a warm, dry place that Ettins and other desert-loving breeds (like the Dustdevil Grendels) will consider home, essentially turning the room's death trap into a nursery. It also re-locates the Ettin egg layer, so that baby Ettins will hatch on a level that hopefully has some food, instead of in that barren lower corridor.

NOTE: If you were already using the Grettin Switch to disable the Ettin egg layer in your world, and you inject the desert nursery, you may need to turn the Grettin Switch on and then back off to reset it. Or just make sure the Ettin egg layer is active before you inject the desert nursery, and turn it off again after the injection is finished.

New Gadget Dropper
An update to an obscure but very necessary script in the Desert Terrarium.

How it Works: This agent updates a hidden script which normally forces Ettins to drop gadgets they're carrying once they enter the Desert Terrarium--preventing them from simply walking around with the same gadget in their hands forever. There was a drawback to the way this script originally worked, in that it targeted Ettins and only Ettins. Spliced hybrids which are classified as Norns or Grendels but still have the gadget hoarding instinct were not targeted by it. This update ensures that the script will target Norns, Ettins and Grendels equally. It will not target Geats, given that Gaius eats gadgets and it would not do for the script to constantly force him to drop his food. If you inject the desert nursery, creatures will release gadgets properly there, too.

NOTE: You MUST remove the New Gadget Dropper before you inject it, to clear out the old script version.

Succulent
A sweet treat young Creatures will enjoy.

How it Works: Designed to grow in the new desert nursery, it will also happily colonize the rest of the Ettin Desert or any other dry area to which it is introduced. This succulent is classified as fruit, and thus provides an extra food source for Creatures that are not naturally inclined to supplement their diet with bugs. Or those that just have a bit of a sweet tooth.

Sunflower
Turn any dry area into a field of sunflowers. Seeds are a good source of starch.

How it Works: The sunflower is a tall plant that needs to be pollinated by insects. Balloon bugs will perform this role nicely. The Albian Sunflower has the peculiar habit of "following" Albia's sun, despite the fact that they are many generations removed from the disc world.

Thorny Devil
A prickly, heat-loving lizard that will help keep your desert nice and tidy.

How it Works: The thorny devil is poisonous if Creatures mess with it--but harmless as long as they leave it alone. It likes warm areas, and will occasionally eat stray raindrops and cacbana seeds so that you won't end up with so many of them littering the Desert Terrarium. (The C3/DS "collision script" that tells an agent when it has hit a surface such as the ground, is itself buggy and does not always activate when it ought to; this can lead to agents like the abovementioned raindrops and seeds to accumulate over time.)

Developer's Notes
All right, here's the deal. I could not get the adult/elder heads to work, but I am not going to scrap the entire breed because of it. So here they are. The Dustdevil Grendel sprite sets are complete for the Baby/Child and Adolescent/Youth life stages, but the sprite sets for the Adult and Elder life stages do not have heads of their own. This means that as adults and elders, they will continue to use the teen head sprites. The teen heads are slightly smaller in proportion to the body than the proper adult and elder head sprites would be, but this is the best compromise I can make for the time being. I'm hoping that the difference won't be too heinous in appearance, and hopefully the agent pack will make up the difference.

CCSF 2012 Day 13: Updated Bugs and Bank

Created by Malkin for C3 (COS File)

The Ballon Bugs from the Desert Terrarium were often just floating about with no way to interact with them initially, until a wonderful update came along! Now that update is available with a fix to the Ettin seed bank. No more autokill issues to deal with!

Download the Updated Bugs and Bank (5 KB RAR File)

From Malkin: "This is an edit to Creatures 3’s Balloon Bugs, making them more interactive for your Creatures. Creatures can now push, pull, eat and squish the bugs, making them much more entertaining overall, especially for Treehugger, Bondi and Draconian Norns, and Grendels of all kinds. Originally made for the CCSF 2009. C3 only. Now with a fixed Ettin seed bank!"

CCSF 2012 Day 12: Desert Feral Run

Submitted by Kitty Tikara for C3/DS

Add some new Creatures to your world with these desert feral run survivors! The following are included:

Grendels (Four from Generations 21-22)
Plant Norns (Three from Generations 30-31)

Download the Desert Feral Creatures (406 KB RAR File)

From Kitty Tikara: "The Plant Norns require nothing but light and a little water to grow, so they were perfect for the desert. I'd never really used them for very much, but they turned out to be the most hardy of all the Creatures. The Metallophagus Grendels are there because the ones from the technological world were over populated and needed a new place to live."

IMPORTANT: The Plant Norns are required in order to view the sprites of these Norns correctly.

CCSF 2012 Day 12: The Four Runes

Created by Doringo for C3/DS (Agent)

The ruins of a desert world hold many secrets, and this discovery is no different! The Four Runes are a collection of agents. Included in the download are the following:

Heart Rune (Teleportation)
Light Rune (Education)
Pestilence Rune (Infection)
Water Rune (Medication)

Download the Four Runes (298 KB RAR File)

From Doringo: "These four runes were excavated from one of the many ruins of the desert world. The runes are Water, Light, Pestilence, and Heart. Each does something related to its name."

CCSF 2012 Day 10: Forest Feral Run

Submitted by Kitty Tikara for C3/DS

Enjoy adding some Norns and Grendels from a feral run to your world! Included in the download are the following:

CFE Norns (Five from Generations 17-20)
Maraquan Grendels (Two from Generations 8-10)

Download the Forest Feral Creatures (465 KB RAR File)

From Kitty Tikara: "The Norns are your basic CFE Norns, but they are just beginning to get some color mutations. The Grendels are the lovely Maraquan Grendels, which don't really fit a theme. They had color mutations from the start, which is cheating but they do look nice. Plus they are probably the lowest generation, because they don't breed that well."

CCSF 2012 Day 10: Colortrue Norns

Created by Ylukyun for C3/DS (Norn Breed)

If the Colortrue Ettins and Grendels weren't a big enough hint, the last species is now available: The Colortrue Norns! Now you can enjoy mixing colors with some of your favorite Norn breeds.

Download the Colortrue Norns (14 KB RAR File)

From Ylukyun: "These Norns are inspired by the Spice Norns and based on CFE no mutate Chichi Norns. They have pigment genes moved around, making their colors mix instead of being inherited. The pigment genes do not mutate, as this causes issues with loss of color over time, but you should be able to get a wide variety of colors without mutation. People are welcome to use these files as a base for creating new color varieties."

IMPORTANT: The Bondi Norn variety requires the Bondi Norn sprites to be viewed correctly. This download does not include any breed installers, nor sprites. Colortrue Norns should not be mixed with other breeds, as the offspring may be sliders or die. Muco will autokill when first injecting the agents and extracting the genome: For best results, hatch a Harlequin Colortrue Norn first before hatching any other color varieties.

CCSF 2012 Day 9: Pacman Ettins

Created by TAB for C3/DS (Ettin Breed)

A dream world can be filled with all sorts of creations, but one of the more interesting are the Pacman Ettins! These unique Ettins look like floating heads who are always after some fruit, just like the real Pacman!

Download the Pacman Ettins (132 KB RAR File)

From TAB: "This is a genetic Ettin breed. They are yellow and have a permanently happy expression, but the most notable feature is their Nano Norn parts, making them look like floating heads or semi circles. Their ideal diet consists of fruit, as they are programmed to eat this and will get all their nutrients from it. Seeds and food are useless to them. In temperament they are nothing special, and should get on well with other Creatures."

IMPORTANT: The Desert Ettins and Nano Norns must be installed in order to properly view the Pacman Ettins. They are based on the CFE Bengal Norn genome, so should only be bred with other CFE Creatures.

CCSF 2012 Day 8: Aquatic World Feral Run

Submitted by Kitty Tikara for C3/DS

There is no better way to explore the depths of the aquatic regions in Creatures than with a group of water-dwelling Norns! This group of feral run Norns are accustomed to the water, and enjoy nothing more than swimming and splashing about! Please make sure to read the important information below, as these Norns come from breeds with sprite dependencies and special instructions. Enjoy spending time in the underwater realm of C3/DS with some adorable new additions! Included in the download are the following:

Gill Norns (Four from Generations 15-16)
Pearl Mermaid Norns (Five from Generations 9-10)

Download the Aquatic World Norns (504 KB RAR File)

From Kitty Tikara: "The Gill Norns have to be kept underwater at all times, or they die quickly. The Pearl Mermaid Norns can't retreat from Norns in the water and can't lay eggs on their own. They can swim, though! They had the color mutation from the beginning, and the Golden Desert sprites were added in later generations. Quick tip for keeping them happier: Have a lot of dummy portals, or just raise a pair at a time."

IMPORTANT: The Gill Norns and Pearl Mermaid Norns are required in order to view the sprites of these Norns correctly. Additionally, the Golden Desert Norn sprites should be installed.

CCSF 2012 Day 8: Oasis

Created by Liam and Moe for C3/DS (Metaroom)

For those Norns, Grendels, and Ettins who live underwater, a brand new area is just waiting to be explored! Oasis is a circular metaroom complete with a small beach and aquatic area teeming with life! Not only are there new sharks, fish, and coral to discover, but the metaroom also includes several new toys. It's a perfect place for Creatures of all ages to enjoy the water! See if you can find some of the new items in Oasis, such as:

Beach Ball
Inner Tube
Shark
Submarine Toy

Download Oasis (3.4 MB RAR File)

From Moe: "Oasis was originally a test-bed for my early coding experiments, specifically with aquatic life (swimming agents, ecosystems, etc). It's over 5 years old and frankly was never meant to be released, except that Liam thought it was pretty and releasable. I agreed with him and figured someone else might enjoy it (if only for the looks, yes). It's a "might as well" release. It was NOT designed for Creatures to live in: It was designed for my own personal testing. It was also not particularly polished (it was just a test-bed, after all). It was not meant to be a well-thought-out room. Just something pretty to play with that I decided to share."

CCSF 2012 Day 7: Colortrue Grendels

Created by Ylukyun for C3/DS (Grendel Breed)

If the Colortrue Ettins weren't enough, now you can enjoy another species with the same sort of genetics! The Colortrue Grendels feature updated color genetics that allow their colors to mix, rather than being inherited from one parent or the other. This pack includes egg agents for the following colors:

Aquamarine
Brown
Cyan
Dark Red
Gold
Indigo

Download the Colortrue Grendels (12 KB RAR File)

From Ylukyun: "These Grendels are inspired by the Spice Norns and based on CFE no mutate Chichi Norns. They have pigment genes moved around, making their colors mix instead of being inherited. They have a slight aversion to Ettins, but do not have a neurotransmitter to make them afraid of or angry at other species. People are welcome to use these files as a base for creating new color varieties."

IMPORTANT: The Jungle Grendel sprites must be installed. Colortrue Grendels should not be mixed with other breeds, as the offspring may be sliders or die. Splices with Colortrue Ettins are possible, though...

CCSF 2012 Day 7: Industrial World Feral Run

Submitted by Kitty Tikara for C3/DS

Time for a sampling of some Grendels from a feral run! These Creatures fit right in with our industrial and technological theme of the day, right down to their photo. Even though many elements of C3/DS are natural, it's always fun to have some more variety with objects and Creatures who are a little more industrialized! Enjoy the day with this group of feral run Grendels! Included in this download are the following:

Aboriginal (25th Generation Female Grendel)
Hot (22nd Generation Male Grendel)
System (25th Generation Female Grendel)
Tacky (25th Generation Female Grendel)

Download the Feral Run Grendels (230 KB RAR File)

From Kitty Tikara: "The only type of industrial or technological Creature that's really out there are the Metallophagus Grendels, so I chose them. These are some of the more successful Creatures from my feral run. They have always been good breeders, and they live in an interesting place. I do have to admit that they lived in the hub and workshop, and not in the Biodome: The Biodome just looked prettier!"

CCSF 2012 Day 4: Fairyfloss Norns

Created by Generalflame for C3/DS (Norn Breed)

Enjoy the first brand new Norn breed of the CCSF 2012: The Fairyfloss Norns! Some may remember the Creatures Caves Preview posted not too long ago. This breed features unique purple coloring, stripes, and a generally adorable appearance! These Norns fit in perfectly among the flowers, and everywhere!

Download the Fairyfloss Norns (2.5 MB RAR File)

From Generalflame: "The only special thing about these Norns is the new sprites. They have basic DS CFE genetics and are unremarkable in every way except that they are purple and striped. In the case that anyone would like to use them as a base for another breed or play with their genetics, that is alright by me."

IMPORTANT: The Fairyfloss Norns use Norn Slot Z, which is used by the Pink Alba Norns. There is a known issue where the first few eggs hatched may appear as Dodgy Norns, though everything should be all set afterwards.

Adult Female (Left) and Male (Right) Fairyfloss Norns

CCSF 2012 Day 2: Aquanornia Revamped

Updated by Grendel Man for C3/DS (Metaroom)

Creatures who enjoy the beach and going for a swim now have a new place to call home! Aquanornia Revamped includes a plethora of updates to the original metaroom. Explore the three underwater levels, or let your Norns, Grendels, and Ettins enjoy a vacation on the shore! Although the area is empty, this simply opens up the opportunity for customization through other agents. Create a wonderful aquatic metaroom with Aquanornia Revamped! Included in the download are the following:

Aquanornia Revamped Agent
Aquanornia Revamped Banner
Aquanornia Revamped Readme

Download Aquanornia Revamped (1.8 MB RAR File)

From Grendel Man: "The original Aquanornia was made by Jennie, and I merely updated it. It is one of the oldest aquatic metarooms around, and one of the few that's receptive to non-swimming creatures. I should note that really large creatures, like the Sabertooth Norns, might have some difficulty navigating the room since the ceiling is a bit low in some places. The updates included with this revamp are as follows (more information in the Readme):
  • The room now injects into all game combinations: C3 standalone, DS standalone, and DS docked.
  • The room has been remapped slightly.
  • The wooden platform is now semi-permeable, allowing some objects to fall through it.
  • Grendels who try to ride the lift to the level immediately below the platform won't teleport up a floor.
  • The uppermost aquatic level is a little more navigable.
  • All of the C3 life within the room has been removed, as have the cheese machines.
  • CA has been added. Light and heat varies depending on the time of day.
  • The levels of the room connected by lifts have been linked up.
  • The lifts themselves have recieved Vampess's edits.
  • The doors have been recoded and the autokill error that plagued the original DS doors has been fixed.
  • The camera won't jump to the doors should a creature use one.
  • Both the DS and C3 versions of the room have a favorite place icon."

IMPORTANT: Aquanornia Revamped works in all combinations of worlds (C3, C3/DS, and DS) but Creatures 3 must be installed, because it draws some of its resources from this game, such as the elevator sprites.

CCSF 2012 Day 2: Survivor Coconut Dolly

Created by Ghosthande for C3/DS (Agent)

When the Creatures Caves Survivor game concluded in September 2012, Coconut Dolly went home to the winner, Jessica. After spending some time on the beach with Jessica, Coconut Dolly is now ready to make the journey into everyone's worlds! She can be interacted with, and induces Creatures to say something interesting. From coconuts and bananas, Coconut Dolly is made of every material a true survivor would need!

Download Survivor Coconut Dolly (38 KB RAR File)

From Jessica: "Thanks to Rascii for hosting Survivor at Creatures Caves, and to everyone who participated! It was a blast keeping Coconut Dolly to myself, but I hope she will fare well everywhere she goes. Enjoy!"

CCSF 2012 Day 1: Colortrue Ettins

Created by Ylukyun for C3/DS (Ettin Breed)

Bring a bit of color into your C3/DS world with this pack of Colortrue Ettins! Not only do these Ettins start off with unique coloring in the first generation, but their genetics have been altered to allow colors to mix throughout the generations, rather than being solely inherited. This pack includes egg agents for the following colors:

Black
Light Pink
Purple
Red
Turquoise
Yellow

Download the Colortrue Ettins (11 KB RAR File)

From Ylukyun: "These Ettins are inspired by the Spice Norns and based on CFE no mutate Chichi Norns. They have pigment genes moved around, making their colors mix instead of being inherited. The pigment genes do not mutate, as this causes issues with loss of color over time, but you should be able to get a wide variety of colors without mutation. People are welcome to use these files as a base for creating new color varieties."

IMPORTANT: The Desert Ettin sprites must be installed. Colortrue Ettins should not be mixed with other breeds, as the offspring may be sliders or die. Muco will autokill when first injecting the agents and extracting the genome: For best results, hatch a Turquoise Colortrue Ettin first before hatching any other color varieties.
